CYL (C or cylinder) and AXI (A or axis) correct astigmatism, which occurs when your cornea is not completely round, but shaped somewhat like a rugby ball. AXI and CYL belong together: CYL is the amount of astigmatism, AXI is the axis, a number between 1 and 180.
